Feature Finds
Welcome to Old Portland H & A’s “Featured Finds” page! We will be using this page to keep a running highlight of some of the favorite treasures we have dug up. While our specialty is architectural hardware, windows, doors, columns, etc, Featured Finds will also have the occassional oddball fun piece. Descriptions and prices will accompany any pictures. Some of the pieces will be shipable and some will not (due to size, weight and/or fragility). If you have any questions, please use the “contact us” portion of the site. Have a good time, check back regularly, and drop by the store when you can. We hope to see you soon!
Original atomic age cupboard/drawer pulls
Do you have a early forties or fifties house? Are you restoring an “atomic ranch”? If so, this is the find for you! We came across a large batch of circa 1940, early plastic, cupboard pulls. These fun pulls are new/old stock (old, but never used). They are a beautiful classic red with cream backing trim. The screw mount spacing is 2 1/2 inches with the overall width being 3 5/8″. At the moment we have more than enough of these to complete any kitchen or bath project. Stock IS limited. When they are gone, they are gone. Price per pull is $9.00 or $100.00 per dozen. If doing a larger project, we recommend getting one or two extra pulls to stow away for future replacement purposes. Mounting screws are included. Shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 will be $10. If you are interested in buying some of these or have questions, please call or shoot us an e-mail.

1968 Mueller Fire Hydrant SOLD
This is a great piece for the garden …or the dog. It is cute, durable, and extremely, heavy all in one! 34″ tall and mounted on a 16″ wide steel plate, this fire plug would look great in a garden surrounded by colorful flowers. We have also heard these are popular with dog fanciers. What could be better than providing man’s best friend with a hydrant of their very own! This item IS NOT SHIPPABLE. $325.00. SOLD

1885 Victorian Door Casings
These victorian door casings are some of the best we have ever seen! They are made of cedar and have a beautiful basket weave pattern down the center of each casing. The Portland house from which these were removed was built in 1885. While these casing kits have seen some wear and tear over the years, they were never painted! There is some paint on the sides (from sloppy wall paint jobs), but the surfaces withthe detail are in pretty good shape. Fair warning, some of the plinths have heavy wear (124 years worth) around the bases and many of the corner rosettes bear the marks of past curtain hardware installations. Some of the original finishes are in excellent condition and some will need refinishing. Over all, they are in fair shape.
There are 23 complete sets available. Each set includes: Two side casings, one top/cross casing, two plinth blocks, and two “crowned” corner rosettes. Each kit will accommodate a door 80″ high and at least 30″ wide. Many of the cross pieces are 60″ in width. This means that some of the kits are wide enough for French doors. $220.00 per set. Shipping may be possible.

Set of Three Sconces
These small sconces are very cute. They have a back plate that suggest they may have come from a Tudor style home. We have paired them up with a set of 1907 “magian” shades made by the Gillendar Glass Company. Given the unusual shape of the back plates, these will not cover a 4″ electrical box. They have been rewired. Set of three $490.00. Shipping available.

A Multitude of Eclectic Minutia!
Are you a sculptor, jewelry maker, steampunk enthusiast, collage artist, or just someone always looking for a creative outlet? We may have just what you need! Old Portland has a display case full of all sorts of cogs, gears, electrical things, and other beautiful oddities. We also have a large selection of unusual and one off items in the “$1 bins” in the back warehouse. Stop by and check them out, you never know what you will find.

Circa 1913 Tear Drop Pendants
Looking for a large set of matching pendants? These beautiful fixtures came out of an old hotel in Washington state. They have a heavy duty commercial design with thick steel chain and vented black, porcelain covered, fitters. The original milk glass shades are unusual in that they have a five inch fitter. We have 14 that are 28″ and 2 that are 24″. Due to the thickness of the chain, the length on these fixtures is not alterable. $185.00 each. Shipping may be arranged.

Victorian Cupboard Latches
This is a beautiful set of four very unusual cast iron cupboard latches. Each retains its original antique gilt finish (witha few added years of antiquing). The striking decorative castings on these are 4 3/4″ in length. If you are restoring a victorian built in, these would make a stunning addition. Set of four $225.00. Shipping may be arranged. Note: We also have a set of these in black.

Art Deco Lighting bolts!
Circa 1928. This fixture looks like it came straight out of the lobby of the Chrysler Building! Given its width, we are guessing it is from an old movie theater or hotel lobby. It hangs down 40″ and is 30″ wide. Twelve bulbs radiate horizontally from the sides with a thirteenth pointing down in the center. You will want to hang this light higher than most as the best view of the Art Deco detailing is from directly below. The colors are a combo of black and antique gold. $2250.00. This item is not available to ship.

Circa 1890 Henry Belcher Window
In 1884 Henry Belcher patented a new process for creating mosaic stained glass windows. He made mosaics using this process up until the mid 1890s when windows of this aesthetic style fell out of fashion. Belcher mosaic windows are very rare and are known for their fine detail and color gradations. In this window, one can see where darker golds are used toward the center square and lighter golds as the design radiates out. Also of note is the juxtaposition of symmetry (outside) and asymmetry (inside). Thirty three jewels of varying color and shape are interspersed amongst the hundreds of pieces of glass. Dimensions including frame are 33 1/2″ high by 30″wide. $4500.00. Not available to ship.

“Old Belmont Kitchen” Sign
This vintage sign was carved from a singal piece of mahogany in the early seventies. A customer recognized the sign and tells us the Old Belmont Kitchen was located on the corner of 46th and Belmont (in the same building as The Horse Brass Pub, but on the East end). The cornucopia and cherubs are painted with the rest of the sign being aged and weathered mahogany. Sign dimensions are 23″ high by 40″ wide by 2″ thick. Warning: This piece weighs in at roughly 35 pounds. This piece would be a perfect accent to any kitchen in the Belmont neighborhood. $275.00. Not available to ship.

1967 Roadmaster “Skyrider Deluxe” SOLD
This super fun bike is vintage perfection!
All original red and white paint, tires, rubber grips and pedals, and upholstered seat! There are dual head lights in front, a small “tank” mid body, and a rack on the back. The tires are 26 X 1.75 white walls. The bike was originally purchased by an older gentleman who used it to ride down his long driveway to get the mail. It has been in storage for several years. There are a few nicks on the paint, but it is in overall great condition. $325.00. Not available to ship. SOLD
Old “3rd and Maple” street sign
Do you (or someone you know) live or work at 3rd and Maple? If you do, this may be the street sign just for you! Each plaque is17″ X 4″ and is made of cast aluminum. The sign is purported to have come from Steamboat Springs, Colorado when they upgraded all of their street signs. The mounting bracket is designed to mount on a pipe with a 2 3/4″ inside diameter. $65.00.
